cliff jump

Words of wisdom are often words to live by. And as any aspiring franchisee knows, there are plenty of wise phrases to go around, including those that relate to your business. Those who’ve been there first share their knowledge with the masses – their successes, their failures, and how they overcame it all to continue to new levels of growth. This is business ownership as we know it, and hearing of others’ hardships allows us to muster up the motivation we need.

Take a look at these pointed words of inspiration, and remember them for everyday use.

From setting up your franchise location in the beginning, to powering through after a bad day, to basking in the excitement of your own success, these quotes show franchise owners the light, often right as they need it most.

1.    “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Thomas Edison
You never know how many times someone failed before they finally made it through to the other side. Pick up your sorrows and frustrations in business, and try once more. It’s what the business owners before you did, and it’s what the original owners to your franchise platform did – how else would they have made it to where they are today? Certainly not by giving up.

Keep pushing forward and you won’t be disappointed with the levels of growth you will find in your franchise location.

2.    “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.” Warren Buffet
All that you’ve built can come crashing down around you with a silly move. Don’t be a victim to such mistakes. Remind yourself of this each time you’re considering giving up or taking a shortcut. Building a solid reputation takes time, and it’s a task that never ends – you never stop boosting your business from the inside-out.

Keep moving toward your goals, and keep reminding people why your franchise is worth frequenting, again and again. Is it repetitive? In theory. In reality, you’re tackling different aspirations and reaching new levels of achievement. The only repetitive part is your willingness to keep on and to do the work the right way for the duration of your franchise location.

3.    “Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.” Alfred Montapert
Problems will arise with your business, that’s a given. Thinking that they won’t exist is a naïve approach, and one that’s bound to leave you with plenty of frustrations. Instead of assuming problems won’t happen, however, find a way to prepare yourself for their existence. “Eat them for breakfast,” or take care of them head-on, first thing in the morning. Then you have the entire rest of the day for franchise progress.

Don’t fret the tough stuff, but handle it effectively, then move on.

4.    “A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.” Ayn Rand
We love this quote for a few reasons: A)There is competition in franchising – real competition – and depending on your market, it can get fierce. But the business shouldn’t only be about beating out others. Pay attention to what the competition does, but they’re not – or should not be – your primary focus. Winning doesn’t always mean beating others, but meeting your own goals. B) Your own said goals should be enough to motivate your efforts. If you aren’t running your business for you, one day you will run out of reasons to keep showing up.

Find what works for you and allow it to help your brand thrive. Beating out the others is just icing on the cake.

5.    “The insurance of working with a big, already successful franchise just gives you the chance to do other things on a more personal level.” – Jason Statham
Never underestimate the power of working with an established, thriving platform. While it’s true that corporate franchise is a larger operation, it’s also what gives you the ability to work on a smaller scale. To work with and train employees, to personally get to know customers, to get involved in the community, and more.

Those busy creating their own business models have little time to set aside for these more fulfilling tasks. But by working with a franchise, your success is built right in, and all you have to do is use it to your advantage. Focus on what matters to you and let your business thrive in those areas and beyond.

6.    “Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds.” Gordon Hinckley
Another oldie but a goodie. Anything worth having comes from hard work – throwing in the towel with your business will get you very little. Expect to work hard, and to find the fruits of your labor in the process. Otherwise, you’ll be rewarded with mounting problems – weeds – for your time.

Business owners come in prepared to work. Remind yourself that this is the best way to find success with your location. It’s also one of the best ways to motivate yourself during a tough day or when things get bogged down in the mix. Powering through is the only way to come out clean and better off than you were the day before.

7.    Once you find something you love to do, be the best at doing it.” Debbi Fields
No one will be as great at what you do as you will be. You are the owner to your franchise, you are the one who makes it run, and you are the one who anticipates and puts out fires before they ever begin. This is your industry, this is your passion. Make it count.

Once you choose a platform for which you like working, the rest happens all on its own. All you have to do is give your all and you will keep thriving in your franchise career.

8.    “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” Henry David Thoreau
Goals reached? Great! What have you learned along the way? How did your business goals grow while getting there? The journey you approach in your franchising achievements will create a much more informed, experienced individual in the process. These skills are invaluable and will serve you through your entire franchising career.

While you should certainly bask in your success, you should also bask in the training you earned along the way. This is training that continue to create more and more success for your franchise location.
