Preventing Volleyball Injuries
Please click here for more information on Redline Athletics - FL
The ankle is the most common site for acute injury in volleyball players. By some accounts, this injury accounts for 30% of time lost to injuries and can result in significant “downtime” from volleyball. A program of balancing and strength training for the foot and ankle is part of the individualized training for volleyball athletes at RedLine Athletics that helps decrease the chance of recurrent ankle sprains.
Patellar tendonitis is the most common overuse injury in volleyball. The most common site for pain is at the bottom of the kneecap, where the tendon originates. Athletes with increased external tibial torsion and deeper than 90 degree knee flexion at takeoff are also at increased risk. The sport performance training staff at RedLine Athletics will note these issues during a personal athletic evaluation and develop a personalized training program to address these issues. RedLine Athletics runs volleyball athletes through sport specific plyometric training to help decrease the risk of tendon injury.
