Using someone else’s napkins

More and more, businesses are going green. This means that they are doing everything they can to be environmentally friendly and use the least amount natural resources possible.

With nearly 30,000 units, even the Subway franchise system is making strides that would make Captain Planet smile. It now provides customers with napkins made only of recycled materials (60 percent of which are consumer recyclables), and other items such as cups and plastic utensils are now also made with fewer earth-harming chemicals. On top of that, Subway has also made changes in the way they make and use deli paper cartons, salad packaging and catering trays, specialty sandwich bags, cup carriers and lunch boxes, and it has worked on using less sandwich wrap wax.

Subway opened its first eco-store on Nov. 5, 2007 in Kissimmee, Fla. Eco-stores are fitted with energy-efficient air ducts, refrigerators, lighting and water fixtures, and even are decorated with earth-friendly materials among other things. Subway also now puts extra effort on even the building’s construction, recycling materials during and after.

With Subway now being considered the leader in efforts to go green in the franchise world, other franchises may become green with envy.
